Drummer MIKE TERRANA Speaks To Greece's METALZONE; Video Available
December 17, 2007Greece's Metalzone.gr conducted an interview with drummer Mike Terrana last week prior to his December 15 concert with ex-NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen in Athens.
Speaking about his decision to leave RAGE, Mike states that he found himself in a situation where it was no longer creative or good to be in. According to Mike, his opinion was never heard by the other members of the group and he was told his solos were tiring to the audience. He also states that he felt he was part of a band which made albums he didn't want to listen to himself and so he decided to be sincere about it and leave. He explains how MASTERPLAN is a much more creative outlet for him, and how Tarja is the best thing he's done in years. He enjoys the way all instruments are put together and her voice floats over it. It seems that there's a strong chance he will be in the permanent lineup of the band, and he will also be participating in the next album and tour of MASTERPLAN. As far as his drum clinics are concerned, Mike explains that he doesn't want to tell people how to play but rather just give them pointers on how to elaborate on ideas and evolve as artists. He listens to different styles of music and says when he plays the same genre for long, he gets rusty, so he feels what suits him best is to play diverse styles. He also gives advice to new young drummers and performs some tricks with his sticks for the camera.
